New England Rehabilitation Hospital at Lowell is a 22-bed, inpatient rehabilitation hospital unit, dedicated to helping you maximize your functionality, mobility, and independence after an illness, injury or surgery. When you are ready to leave the hospital, but not yet ready for home, we provide the care you need to help you get back to your independence.

Located on the campus of D'Youville Life & Wellness Community, New England Rehabilitation Hospital at Lowell offers Merrimack Valley residents acute inpatient rehabilitation close to home, work, and your family. What remains unchanged is our commitment to provide top quality acute inpatient rehabilitation:

  • Daily Internal medicine and physiatry physician interventions (5 to 6 days/week)
  • Intensive (3 hours/day, 5 days/week) physical, occupational and speech therapy
  • More than 7 hour/day of rehabilitation nursing care reinforcing functional skills on the nursing unit and providing patient and family education
  • Multi disciplinary team with a coordinated treatment approach

Intensive Rehabilitation and Medical Management
The options for rehabilitation care can be confusing. Unlike a skilled nursing facility or a long-term acute care hospital, New England Rehabilitation Hospital at Lowell is dedicated solely to short-term intensive rehabilitation (3-hours/day, 5-days/week of Physical, Occupational and/or Speech Therapies). Patients whose primary need is rehabilitation, along with medical management, are ideally suited for New England Rehabilitation Hospital at Lowell. We offer the highest intensity of therapy, the most innovative and advanced rehabilitation technology and a staff of specially trained physicians, nurses and therapists all dedicated to your rehabilitation and medical care.

What to Expect During Your Stay

During your first days at New England Rehabilitation Hospital at Lowell, you will be assigned your internist and physiatrist who will manage your care on a daily basis. Your team of rehabilitation specialists will conduct evaluations so they can design your individualized treatment plan and estimate how much time you will need to reach your goals. Your case manager will work closely with you and your family, keeping you informed of updates to your treatment plan and status of your progress.

Each day you will participate in a rehabilitative therapy program customized for you. How long each session lasts depends on your unique therapy goals. Each week, you and your treatment team will meet to discuss your progress, goals, and discharge plan. Toward the end of your stay, your team will work with you to determine the best way to continue your recovery. Many patients wonder how long it will be before they can return to their optimal level of functioning. Your length of stay will depend on the amount of therapy and care you may need, as well as your specific therapy goals. Our expert staff will work with you to get you back to your optimal level as soon as possible.
